Predator engine mods

#1
Hey everyone, I'm looking at modifying my stock predator 212cc. I'm not looking for anything crazy just something fast and fun. I was looking at the higher compression head, a thinner head gasket, and an upgraded air cleaner. My questions are is how do I tell if mine is a hemi style head or not, if all the components will switch from head to head, if I need a new fly wheel( I've heard not so good things about stock ones), and if in should switch to heavier valve springs. I have already made a header for it so I'm not in need of one of those now. Thanks for the help everyone. And if you guys have any other ideas or recommendations for this feel free to chime in, any idea is greatly appreciated.

The model number is 60363. There r tons of pics around too but not at my computer. If u click on my profile and fine the thread hemi upgrades there r tons of pics in that thread too. Not the stroker thread. The longer one

Hemi has a cast aluminum valve cover, the non hemi has a stamped steel cover.

Along with your parts list pick up a billet rod, billet flywheel, your choice of cam, that all will get you there safely.

Will it matter if it is a hemi or not if I am switching the head? And will all the original, valves, push rods, springs ect work in the new head? And for these simple mods would I really need a billet rod? I was also planning on staying stock with the cam

if u r switching the head, then imo u would want a hemi to begin with... and then switch to a honda head... or a clone honda head... if u r on a budget, then hemi has better piston and carb... for the most part, no the parts are not interchangeable from hemi to honda head and yes u would want a billet rod, billet flywheel, cam, etc... it depends on ur goal and budget...

y change the head, or anything else, if u r staying with the stock cam?

lots of info here and both hemi and honda head have been on the motor... honda on there now

Haha I'm trying to learn as much as I can with this, the head I am looking at is the one on OldMiniBikes, so is that any different for interchangeability of parts? And I don't want to break the bank on this either, what will it do if I just put an aftermarket air intake on it? How much of a boost will that give me? And con the website it said the new head will give a 1hp boost to a stock engine so does that mean I don't have to upgrade the flywheel rod and cam along with the new head?

If you change the head you will need most of the valve train, valves, rockers, rocker studs, lash cap, keepers, springs and guide plate. There are not many aftermarket parts for the hemi head but I really depends on what your wanting to do with this motor. You can go simple and put an air filter kit and header on or you can shell out some cash and do a cam, mikuni carb kit, rod, flywheel and heavier springs and spend about $400.

My original parts won't work with the head? And what are some simple mods I can do to hop it up a bit? I have a header, I ordered an filter kit, what els would be agodd idea?

Again I said something cheap, I'm not looking to break the bank on this I'm going to get a billet flywheel, a performance air filter and I already have a header for it, what other things could i do?

i am in the process of doing a very mild motor build for a friend, will have a thread up shortly... hemi short block... non hemi predator head that has factory 27mm/25mm valves... 26 lb springs, isky black mamba cam, billet rod, CM push rods, 1.3 rockers (stamped, and guide plate), billet flywheel, jetting, air filter, may port the head and mill it a little... and if so, may change carb to a 22mm mikuni clone... may be leaving something out, but all on a low budget

i also have a clone honda 14cc head, to use that i would need to grab some valves... i like the fact that the head i have sitting has factory 27mm intake and is non hemi... so leaning toward milling that to 15cc and using it

Where did you find a Honda head with factory 27/25 valves? I thought they all came with 25/24 from the factory.

There where some clone heads around that had big valves in them already. B&M karting had them and they were only $50. I missed out and they never got any more in that I know of.

the last motor i picked up came with them all stock... carb seems better too... was a 69730 model... the last 69730 model had the normal valves too, looks like a revised version to me
