Project "Lil' Dipper" - 1969 Lil' Indian Build

#42
Here's some more shots of the bike as I finished things up in early december. I still have some work to do on it as well
as designing & making a chain/clutch guard. I got the motor mounted up and installed a new 5/8" max torque clutch and used RLV performance kart chain from OldMiniBikes. The twist throttle is the nice one from OldMiniBikes, i still have to get the return spring figured out on the carb. THe seat pan is made and material was dropped off so my friends wife can stitch it up.
It will just be the simple rectangle shape, black marine vinyl with white piping.
The boys loved it and hopefully we can get it finished 100% this spring so we can put some miles on it this summer.

well nds1968, it turns out my bro and i still have the 1969 Gilson Montgomery Ward (needs a wheels and tires) but went through a semi-full resto about 12 years ago. So technically i only need 1 more and have been looking craigs but probably won't pull any triggers until i find something nice; but i already have another vintage 3hp motor here waiting for when i do.

Finally starting to thaw out here in western NY. I picked up one of the fiberglass clutch covers from OND. Hopefully make some progress on mounting that and getting the throttle hooked up. Summer time is coming quick and my boys wanna ride!

Yes Nate I did download the pic you made in the other thread for the bracket. I have a mill, shear and brake at work I can use, and plenty of scrap metal so I should be able to come up wi:laugh:th something

Picked this up today. My buddy had a friend stitch it up. I provided the base, foam and marine vinyl. Turned out awesome.
Only thing left is to get the clutch cover bracket made and paint the cover.

finally got around to finishing up the work on the clutch/chain cover. I also ended up fabbing my own bracket for it using a piece of stainless steel bent over and some PEM nuts. This lil indian is pretty much ready to ride and the boys are ready to ride!

Oh and thanks to OND for the clutch cover, that was one of the early blems he had when he started re-popping these covers 2 years ago.

here is the cover I made for the clutch guard. I tried making one out of the template that NDS had here but it didn't fit the Briggs 3hp too well so I just went with my own design.

I used a piece of stainless steel with 3 holes located to attach it with the side cover bolts. I used some 1/4-20 washers and longer hex head cap screws to attach the bracket and side cover to the motor.

Once I had the bracket on and lined up where I wanted I located three 10/32 holes on the top of the guard and drilled for #10 PEM nuts that got pressed into the underside of the bracket after the 90 degree bend was made in the brake. Some 10/32 button head cap screws attach the guard to the bracket. Sorry no pics of the PEM nuts but you can see the cap screws in the previous post.
