Received the ProMod Jackshaft Kit today and got right down to the installation. I just followed the directions that are supplied with the kit (plenty of pics), and as the story goes "with just a few simple hand tools..." I had the kit installed in no time and was ready to give it a test drive.
We (my 19 year old daughter, my 12 year old daughter, and myself) hauled it over to our usual riding area and put the kit to the test. It's pretty cold here today (27f, wind chill around 10f) so I let the DB30 warm up a little, and then my daughters rode it around easy-like on level pavement (Giving the thumbs-up as they passed by). I jumped on it to see what kind of improvement it made, and could tell IMMEDIATELY that it was much better in take-off and pick-up speed.
Next we took it down and back up the access road that is kinda steep. The little mini bike flew up the road on the way back with the girls on board (much faster than before). So it was time for the old man (198 lbs) to saddle up and give it a try. Before the jackshaft kit was installed, the DB30 would pull me (barely), but it made me feel like somethin' was gonna break or burn up, so the wife and I bought us a Baja Warrior (6.5 hp) to ride.
The little mini bike with the jackshaft kit pulled me back up the inclined access road and actually picked up speed a bunch. I bet it'll go up the incline faster than the Baja Warrior will (Guess I'll have to find a torque-a-verter for the Warrior now).
There's still plenty of snow on the ground here so I couldn't do any off-road testing today.
The little 2.8 hp engine with the jackshaft kit from ProMod is plenty fast for my two daughters to ride now. I'm thinkin' that maybe this summer I'll look around at the local yard sales/flea markets and see if I can pick up a stock DB30 that someone has blown up, burned up the clutch, or just disgusted with, then I'll drop in a 6.5 hp engine with the kit from cjtmini and then play around with it.
