Any picts of the carb?? Some of those older carbs had a main jet/nozzel that needed removed before the bowl would come off. Briggs/Marvel/Zenith are a couple just off the top of my head. Usually just remove the HS adjuster and use a screwdriver up into THAT hole and remove the spray nozzel-hope this helps.

Yeah, soak the hell out of it. It's gummed up.. You don't want to break that jet off or you'll REALLY be up shit creek.. Dunk it completely submerged in a can full of alcohol or mineral spirits or something.. Shake it around every once in a while.. Then when ya DO go to take it out, loosen it like 1/8 of a turn, then tighten it back up 1/7 of a turn, loosen it 1/8 of a turn, tighten 1/7... and work it back and forth gently, until it spins easily.. :Those carbs are kinda hard to find now days.
