They're good. I worked on a tiller a few months ago that had one on it that looked to be a few years old, and was still working fine. Solid state is always better than points, unless you're a stickler for originality.
I have one of those. I tried to mount it inside the Tecumseh points box behind the flywheel and it did not fit in there good, so I ran it with the points, I may try mounting it out side the box sometime to see how it works.
