Spark Plug

I always think it's funny how people don't want to know how to find the info they need, they just want somebody else to supply the answer for them. The problem with relying on somebody elses answer is that you're really only relying on their OPINION. I wouldn't put a junk E3 in anything I own, but that's just my opinion.
dude, I've been around minibikes since i was a little boy!

I got that bike from my Uncle was I was like 10. Cracked the head off of one of the valves when I was about 16. I put the wrong size spark plug in. I guess the threads were too long, I didn't know how to fix a valve back then so I got rid of the thing, and got a Kawi KE 100. I didn't even think about mini's until I was in PepBoys and seen the Doodlebug a few years ago. Wow, I started remembering all the fun I had. My interest started up big time again. I looked all over the net for minibike places. Couldn't find much. I think there was "minibike central" or something. a few other places. when this forum came out and I stumbled on it, I lurked for MONTHS before I posted anything. I searched EVERY catergory EVERY DAY. I didn't even know I had a Fox Thunderbolt until I saw it here. These kids today dont even try and search. I guarantee, 99% of the bull:001_9898: they ask about, has been covered on here in some form or another.

I agree with you guys. Thats when I see some kid posting all kindsa threads with stupid questions I say search and you will find. I found this site and Ive read just about every thread ( even if it didnt make sense, one day it will)by now just trying to learn anything/everything I can and put my own way of thinking to these minis, Im still a newb but when are you not? When someone just wants the answers handed to them, thats where I get mad. But what am i gonna do? Not help thats fer sure:eek:ut: QUestions are awesome and how we learn, but if you dont even try to find out on your own then you are useless. just my 2 cents.:scooter:

I can see your point.........On the reverse however. There are many who have not been at it long who have started to gather a good bit of knowledge and are eager to share it with others by answering questions.

What may seem like a stupid question to someone like yourself...or any veteran mini biker...is still perplexing to the newbie. Or the not so mechanically inclined.

I would bet that on this site there is a fairly large number of members who are happy to answer noob questions. And then also a large number who dont want to. For those that feel the question is elementary...sure it will become annoying. But just remember that we are all different and each has an area of expertise and some areas where knowledge is not so much.

If someone makes many posts about the same rudimentary subject....then as a group we can encourage that person to help themselves alittle more than relying on others. Ive seen several myself that seem to make post after post about the same thing. That to me IS annoying. Some people will never catch on or dont want to learn for themselves. Those are the offenders in my opinion.

Anyway...its nice to see peoples progress. Without a helping hand it could take a lot longer for many to reach a comfort level with their ability to modify or restore these toys. Im actually kind of proud of how Ive come along. I can take mine completely apart and fine tune it quickly now. Also from reading and asking questions I understand a lot more of the concepts I would like to incorporate im my bike.

I think this whole issue could be resolved with a section dedicted to newcomers and or so called dumb questions.
Those people who want to answer question politley can and those that don't won't feel obligated to police that part of the forum.
A lot of other sites have a FAQ section.
I know that I would probably use it myself , and I would be more willing to help out others in the proper place.
Just a thought , and Smokie I hope you have a great Thanksgiving as well.
(I will talk to the big guy and see if he will exchange that lump of coal for a predator)

Maybe we should all cut Smokie some slack, His arrogance mite be caused buy his ignorance. It seems obvious he has no other friends to turn to and ask these questions. We should do our best to help him and others like him that no clue what they are doing .
I agree that we need a handicap area for the newbie's,maybe like that "let me Google that for you" thing but in a list form.
Not everyone has been born with common sense or even taught any social skills,We need to show more compassion for the less fortunate.

This guy got a hard time but did have thin skin throughout this skirmish, a shame he feels he needs to leave and I hope he changes his mind because he tore that 2.8 down and did well learning much!

I now answer the already asked questions to a point, because I feel like it. Sure would be easy just to let it go rather than let it bug ya but everyone has different opinions on that and some do point out others missteps more than others, to each his own and I'm sure I've done it but no more. I wont debate anyone over anything here, got involved in a jacked up thread once but got out clean as good sense prevailed. No percentage in gettin' in a dust-up on here, we have some real hard cases on here you cannot win against so let em twist off alone is my new policy! A kinder gentler me.

Im pretty sure.......... to quote Doc Holiday......."It was more strain than he could bear".
:lol::lol: That is funny however but I hope he decides to rejoin us!

I think it has something to do with the name .... "SMOKIE" the last one we had wasn't worth a .... you know what i mean, as soon as he got banned then majically another appeared...almost over night. I think the "SMOKIE" name is like bad karma or something.

Shame on you

Shame, shame, shame on you older members, instead of answering the questions and explaining how you got the information you ridicule and demoralize the young and new. You older members alt to know, if you have nothing nice to say don’t say anything just move on. How do you know if this was just a young boy trying to get his mini up and running so that he can do what this forum was dedicated to, enjoying, riding and remembering our mini bikes. It’s just sad that this issue keeps coming up, this new member might have just wanted and quick answer and conversation starter topic just to get to know the older members. What do you do, you give him the boot. Sickening isn’t it?:repuke:

yep. Keep bringing this issue up...are you insane?
did you even read the whole thread? They told him how they found the answer, told him to use "search". That is the problem today..LAZY PEOPLE who want the answers. Not, how can I help myself?
The tools are there for most questions to be answered. USE THEM:001_tt2:

I'm of the belief that a portion (50%? maybe) of newbie questions are posted due to wanting to be part of the forum. If people did a search for their questions then they wouldnt be able to mingle/communicate with others.

Its also a way to get on the board and begin a conversation with like minded others. After all thats what this forum is all about.

It all has to do with attitude ,you can't expect to be a smart ass and still get help. Smokie set the mood of the thread by him name calling right off the bat. If you ask for help on this forum you get it,demand help you get something else .

Well put Fabguy .
If a`new member wants to fit in and join the conversations , a good place to start is by actually looking at all the projects other people are building and giving a coment or two.

Here is a useless bit of info, I just for fun randomly pick names from the member list
and look at their stats .
There is a huge number of members who :::

1. Join

2. Ask a question about a minibike they just found

3. want to know how much its worth

4. Vanish from the forum ( maybe there is a OldMiniBikes triangle ?)

All without ever commenting or contributing to the forum, maybe it is truly the " ME " generation.

What is the deal with no PM's with low post count? The reason I ask is,is the a way to make a "new member" forum that they can post in for help first and not be able to post on the main pages? At least until they make an introduction and or make their first few postings there. It could have all the sticky's on top with the "governor removal warning" and "my mini bike won't start, what to check for" and of course "what it worth" "what do I have",some should be locked for just a how to self help read only.
Maybe the newbie's would wear themselves down a little before the made it to the older threads or sections.
I would not mind writing a "how to" for a sticky for the top. The mods could pick which ones that they like best or seem easiest to understand.
