stock db starts then dies

This is my son's db which he got last Christmas. Besides a few problems with the brakes, now whenever it is started it dies. Spark plug is fine, carb was removed as the float was sticking, fixed that and now when it starts it just dies. On the gas off/on lever there is a small rubber o-ring that was cracked, I patched it and this is when the problems started. Could the o-ring be the cause or should I just get another stock carb? I want to put a clone on it but that will have to wait. Any ideas?

Welcome to the site! It could be any number of things but does sound fuel related, if you need any parts for the little stocker just post here or PM me when you have enough posts under your belt. I have three DB engines, you can have any part but the clutch and the fuel tank for the shipping cost. I use the tanks and clutches for projects but have no need for the rest! Let me know what you need!

I am back :)
has been a while, been busy with keeping my son's go kart running (is a challenge with the snow and cold) but he loves riding. His DB has been sitting and now it is time to get it up and going. Gonna put the brake upgrade on it and still it needs a carb. Soon he will be riding it with or without the snow

Not sure why you think you need a new carb, you said the problem started after you repaired the shut valve. Why not by pass the shut off valve with a longer gas line, if it stays running the shut off valve is your problem.....also, not sure how you repaired the shut off valve but maybe you plugged the fuel line or crap got sucked into the carb.

The weird looking O ring inside/at the top had a crack and when I tried to fix it this is when it would run for a bit then die, it fires right back up, runs for a few seconds then dies. It does this over and over. I want to :hammer: the O ring or the carb...lol
I repaired it with a sealer that is oil/gas resistant. Will look at it tomorrow while it ain't snowing.
Ready for spring soon!

get the correct part instead of rigging it with some sealer stuff. if it was fine, you put shit on it and now it won't run you obviously hahahahaed something up.

take it back apart, clean off whatever you put on there and go buy the correct size o-ring.

Finding the weird O ring was a pain as I tried to find it. I think the reason I first messed with it was it was leaking ....can't remember but I will take it apart and check it out again. I do see a clone engine in the future :scooter:

I have just about every part you need for a 97cc engine. It's all parted out right now. Sold already - carb gaskets, mountin studs, air box, valves. Everything else is still here.

You will not find what your looking for at the Baja site. Here:

What part is it you need and I wonder if particules are inside the passage to the needle valve. Your problem is clearly a partial clog of the fuel passage at or before the needle valve. The motor burns gas faster than the gas can get around the clog-give it a few seconds starts again-then runs low on gas dies again ect ect ect.
