Street Legal Dirt Bug-The Quest!

Can it be done? Title office sent me to the Deputy Registrar. DMV sent me to the State Highway Patrol. I found this online:

From Digest of Ohio Motor Vehicle Law:

3. Equipment regulations: State law requires that every motorcycle
operated on public roadways must be equipped with the following:
• At least one, but no more than two headlights
• At least one taillight/brakelight
• A white license plate light
• A horn which can be heard for at least 200 feet
• At least one rearview mirror positioned so that the rider has a clear
view of the roadway behind the vehicle
22
• Handlebars and grips that are mounted so that they are no more than
15 inches above the seat
• Turn signals on all motorcycles manufactured after January 1, 1968
4. Motorcycle passengers: Bucket or bench seats for passengers are illegal.
Riders must be seated astride the cycle, with one leg on either side.
Passengers may only be carried on a firmly attached regular seat.

Headlights and blinker relay

Need to cut about a half inch off the spacer and put the speedo drive between the 2 pieces of spacer, the half in piece inside the drive.

Speedo came from an old exercise bike I think, will have to take the face and make a new one to reflect the real speed.

Headlights mounted

Bought for another project and never used.

Rigged to a battery for testing.

Riders view

Gonna put a piece of scrap alum diamond plate in there to mount the headlight switch and turn signal switch, the relay will mount out of sight underneith the plate.
Still have to get a small lawn mower battery and figure out where to mount it. The system will just run off the battery since the engine doesn't have a charging circute as far as I know.

Nice. Although i'd hate to be the one to wire everything up. Is it going to have a battery somewhere? I don't know what the laws are in ohio, but don't you need road approved tires and all that official stuff? (DOT lights?). Hope you can make it work.

Have you figured out a way to get a title?
Well about 10 years ago or so I rolled my truck and totaled it. It was back then I was introduced to Ohio's re-built salvage title procedure. It looks like I will have to take that route. The lights I put on it are car driving lights and the tailight is an old Ford Model A? light. At the very worst I will take it to the cabin on Kellys Island where I can ride on the roads with an ORV sticker between Labor Day and Memorial day. Thats really where I am building it for anyhow. To many dang tourists:doah: driving around Sandusky going to Cedar Point :001_tt2: to really ride on the streets here.

i don't see how just a receipt will get you a title. i was always under the impression that you'd at least need an MSO for that (which these don't come with).

I used to live in a townhouse by Margaritaville and ride to Damon's frequently. The best route was to hang a left at Toft's and try to stay as close as possible to the waterfront streets. Traffic was not too bad and the speed limit is only 25-35mph. I did get stopped by Sandusky's finest one time. When he ran my drivers license, plate, and checked my insurance card, he shook his head and let me go on my way. :001_tt2:
Are they still allowing golf cars in downtown Sandusky?

Told my boss I would bring it to work at the OVH, and ride it around the grounds, we already use gators and a 3 wheel ezego half golf cart thing!:1orglaugh:
