As long as you have six inches or so to keep the exhaust valve from cooling too fast on shut down, you are okay. (Less length required if you have a silencer/screen that will retain heat a bit)
If the pipe is longer than a foot, (or so) you should support it, so you don't pull the mounting bolts out.
Tecumseh's really like to have open exhausts, the more the better.
