How do I read my ID tag? What do all the numbers tell me ? How do I tell the year model? It is a tecumseh
Model# Hs40 553800
Serial# 11948

Pics? Model HS40 = horizontal shaft 4hp small frame
Serial 11948 first digit equals the year. In this case 71 or 81. Pictures would help. You would know by the shroud design and where the information is located. A riveted tag on the lower front would be 71. A squared off shroud and stamped numbers in the top would be 81.

If it's a riveted tag, it's probably July 13, 1971.....although it looks like there is one too many digits in the serial number. Could be 1981.

A photo of the tag and shroud would be better.

Sorry I went back and looked and in the end of the serial number that is a B
Also this is a lighting coil motor.
