Asking experienced Briggs builders out there to suggest other carbs that work well with the 5hp flathead. From what I've read/watched, any Mikuni or Tillotson upgrade will need a manifold/adaptor to connect to the Briggs block. Is there a specific carb/adaptor combo that has worked well? Any specific supplier for the manifold or is this a home project? Thanks for any suggestions that I could investigate.

Briggs makes a plastic adapter that works well for putting a Tecumseh style carb or a diaphragm style carb on a flathead Briggs.
It cost a lot though... about $45 shipped . Look up Briggs # 691922
