I saw Mary Weiss the lead singer from the all-girl band from the 60's "The Shangri-Las" passed away on Saturday. She was beautiful and had a great voice.

The group was formed at Andrew Jackson High School in Cambria Heights, a neighborhood in Queens, New York City, in 1963.

The group was two pairs of sisters: Mary Weiss (lead singer) and Elizabeth "Betty" Weiss, and identical twins Marguerite "Marge"/"Margie" Ganser and Mary Ann Ganser.

Two pairs of sisters! How cool was that!

The lead singer Mary Weiss was only 15 years old.

Two singles were released in 1964 that charted.

The 1st one "Remember (Walking in the Sand)" went to #5 on the Billboard charts. It would later be covered by several bands including Aerosmith.

The 2nd iconic single went all the way to #1 and became the song most associated with the band.

I like this one, "Out In The Streets"
