If it has the original motor with the rite numbers on it, the first digit of the serial number is the year the engine left the factory.. So it should coincide pretty close to that within a year or so..

Depending on the year, it will either have an aluminum tag on the side of the shroud, or numbers pressed rite into the shroud on the top..

They started doing away with the aluminum in 72, and you see the stamping begin in 72, on the bigger engines, and have found aluminum tags on the 3.5's as late as real early 1974..

So if your number is a 6 pressed into the steel, 1976..

if it's 9 or a 2 and stamped into an aluminum tag, it's a 1969, or 1972...
