Where can I buy pipe for exhaust?

#1
I need to build a custom exhaust for my rupp/clone project...Its turning out to be much more difficult than I imagined..I can't seem to find a source for 3/4 or 1 inch pipe and non of the local muffler shops can bend pipe that small anyway..:sadcrying4:

I go to mower repair shops and dig around the scrap pile for discarded exhaust systems with nice bends...have a $20 bill sticking out of your shirt pocket while you're asking for permission...it's subliminal trickery, but it works every time.

All of my headers were made using bends from cut-up rider mower exhaust systems or minicycle exhausts...

you mite try emt /conduit pipe .its thin but easy to bend . check with the local metal suppliers and welding shops they may have some thin wall stuff ,ask for a36 or mild steel tho .

I looked into the conduit..It is heavy enough pipe but it is galvanized so not so nice to weld..I would also have to figure out how to bend it...

Flatheadpopup that link looks interesting..Thanks..

Go to Home depot! Grab a piece of condit and a bender off the shelf. throw a few nice bends in your piece of condiut and then put the bender back. Now just pay for your conduit with a bunch of wacky bends in it. Then go home and cut-up & re-weld. Or just pay them $60 for the bender and you can bend at will..

McMaster-Carr sells some good stuff, tooo ...

I've heard of several people just using old sets of handlebars to make custom pipes - not so much the bicycle frames, though ...

That would work! Testing out a bender before a comtemplated purchase is certinally OK.

only problem with that is the benders for the conduit have too large of a radius, you cant get nice tight bends for exhausts.... The only way to get nice bends for these engines is a mandrel bender and good tubing...
