for engines with a rear oil drain plug thats center is about 3/8" from the bottom of the engine
.
retract the push bolt until its end is even with the body of the adjuster then line it up with the drain plug mark where your 1/4" mount holes will need to be then drill the 2 mount holes and bolt it down
.
now to adjust the engine and chain just loosen the engine mount bolts then turn the push bolt until the engine is where you want it to be then tighten the jam nut to the body of the adjuster and retighten the engine mount bolts
.
now no amount of chain pull or engine vibration will allow the engine to slide backwards
.
this adjuster requires a minimum of 3/4" of mount space behind drain plug . the push bolt is 2 1/4" long make sure you have clearance for it to. a shorter bolt can be used if needed
.
$15 shipped in the USA

What about those of us using a mounting plate will this still hit the drain plug, or will it still work if it is against the mounting plate?

the bolt head will always be 2 1/4" behind the drain plug and you will need at least 3/4" of motor plate behind the oil plug to mount the adjuster
.
I dont really understand your question but here is a picture of the adjuster mocked into postion. you need to determine if this will work for you I hope this picture helps

I was asking about a set up like on a doodle bug with the engine swap billet plate, the plate is the same size as the engine so the engine sits a little less than 1/2" off the frames engine plate. I guess I would just have it against the billet plate.
