5.5hp Jiangdong making banging noise

Hi my 5.5hp Jiangdong is making a very loud banging noise, like a hammer is hitting the inside of the engine. I recently cleaned the carb and set the valve lash, changed the oil, replaced the spark plug and all was working well, then the "banning noise started a few days later. I believe it's too loud for it to be the valves? Any suggestions?

sounds like the rod... time for a new engine...:hammer:

probably have a lifter completely loose, or so far out of adjustment it is hitting the piston, or open when it should be shut

Check to be sure one of your valves isn't loose.

How did the old (even the new now) oil look like? mettallic?

Actuaaly the oil seemed fine. It was running well, until it wasn't
