5/8 bearing down to 3/8

Hey gang,
I got a nice Fox Sprite recently and am starting to put it together. I do not like the wheels it came with and was going to swap them out. I noticed the forks are drilled for a 3/8 axle. Is this stock? What is the easiest way to put on my wheels (Astro rims with 5/8 bearings) I think I can just go to OMBWH and get new bearings (3/8) swap them out and I'll be good to go. I don't want to drill out the forks and rear axle mounts.
Any other thoughts? opinions? thanks all.

Yes, that was the standard axle size on the Sprites. You can sleeve the original axles with a 1/8 walled bushing -- I think I've seen 3/8" bearings on Ebay before, but I couldn't seem to locate them just now.
