Aftermarket Electronic Ignition?

#1
Hello all. I'm trying to rebuild an A.P.E. Dunecycle and have found a good deal on a Horizontal Shaft engine (Briggs & Stratton 185432-0246 9 HP Vanguard Series). Now, I really want to run lights and such but the engines with alternators are so expensive, and I haven't found any within my range. How would I go about attaching an electronic ignition/alternator to a standard pull start? Is it possible, and would I need to get a larger magneto? I'm having trouble finding solid information on this subject. Thanks for the help guys.

You don;t want an electronic ignition you want a charging system for a battery or lighting coil. Briggs probably made a lighting /charging pack for that engine. ASk your dealer what he can get for it....

Thanks for the charging pack tip. If I get the engine I like, it'll be a Horizontal 9 hp Vanguard. Are there any big differences I should know between the two? The Vanguard seemed very nice.
