Awesome clone valve failure.

Stock brand new clone valve in a stock genuine 14cc head, on my modded gx160 (billet rod, flywheel, chromeoly pushrods, 274 cam, chockless bored gx200 carb, 26lb springs, airfilter and header). Happened at about 6.5k with my buddy riding it, not me, so not exactly shure how he did it (he can break anything mechanical really easily). Walked it back and said it wouldn't start. No compression at all. So I took off the valve cover to investigate, and found this.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha. Thats all I can say. Oh and I laughed so hard i almost pee'd in my pants. Good thing I have a few more 160 long blocks. I have more pictures, my intranets is being weird and all my uploads are failing. I'll post them when it works

thats why I never ride my buddy's toys. If I did they would blow up for sure.
My dad had a minibike left over from when he was a kid. I was 10 or 11 and it had a 5hp tec on it. I have no clue what the frame was, it was probably a Monkey wards, or something along those lines. He road it around when I had my power wheels and then he gave it to me once I got the hang of it. A 50lb kid with a h50 is a dangerous thing :-D I managed to blow it up lol. I remember him yelling at me, I drove that thing when I was 10 years old all the way til now and you have it 2 days and blow the motor up.

Even to this day if Dad builds something, I take it easy, because I know i'll blow it up.

I used the clone valves because I had toasted my exhaust valve the previous day when I had a wicked bail on this atv trail and cracked my header. Had to drive around 10km's home. I'm cheap and had a brand new clone sitting on my shelf. Lapped them in and thought all was well. Hahaha it wasn't.

I've opened it up already and have been driving it again today. Only one chunk of aluminum, don't know where the rest went??? I had a head I cut the short sides down and polished the c chamber and exhaust port sitting around, and slapped it on. The head gasket's blown but she runs great.

morepicsworked.

enjoy

inquiry about the piston

running with that piston now, it'll buff out

Now that dosn't go there:hammer:
It does now..

This is why I'm starting to think that clone motors are good for pressure washers and trash pumps, but it pays to build up a real Honda for high rpm use.
There is absolutely NO DOUBT that ANYTHING Chinese is complete garbage... Soooo they (copied a good design) BUT.. where the Honda blue print says, this piece aluminum, this piece steel, this piece plastic...

China erases that and scribbles in ( this piece garbage, this piece garbage, this piece garbage)

There is A REASON the stuff is 1/3 the price.. because the actual materials THEMSELVES are trash.. Mix in 800 pounds of Styrofoam with 800 pounds of aluminum, and ya have twice we as much material..

The stuff is thrown together as cheaply and piss poor as possible, so they can (sell) the stuff.. It's not MEANT TO BE some great motor.. It just has to be on a shelf for sale and (look like) an engine.... at 1/10 the price of a (real engine)

a quote from Rick...

"It was made to SELL, not USE"

I've seen 2001 China dirt bikes with a hole rusted RIGHT THROUGH the aluminum engine.. Well, corroded I guess ya call it.. Whatever ya call it..

Aluminum vanishes into thin air, because it saw sunlight, or rain, or just because that whole area was more Styrofoam than aluminum...

ANYTHING mass produced in China is ABSOLUTELY THE cheapest junkiest stuff there is.. There is a REASON they make a profit, by buying tons of steel from America, shipping across the world, melting it down, making a new something, ship it alllll the way back, sell it for 100 bucks, and STILL make a fortune doing so...

Hmm....

Tell us how you realy feel.

I bought my son a Kazuma 90.
3 years later he is still riding it.
Sometimes yo get a good one and sometimes you get a dud.
But if it weren't for China he would never have got the bike at all.
As it was 400 dollars was all I had and to this day I still think it was a bargin....

How many people here are still driving a Pontiac Astra or Merc Zepher?
I suspect non....
Not many things 30 years old are worth keeping if the cost to keep then running exceeds the value of it or replacement cost.

In 30 years my son will be far to big to ride it.
The good news is my nefew is just about big enough to hand it down.

20 years ago if I would have spent more for a GY6 engine than the entire bike. Today I can buy a complete replacement aftermarket engine and gear box for a few hundred dollars.

I don't mind fixing things if they break.
You guys should apreciat the fact that parts are so cheap its still cost effective to repair these things. And if you feel like playing the aftermarket also has a lot of race parts for these engines. You can make them stronger and faster than Honda and still pay less.

I just think you sometimes you get a good one, sometimes you get a crappy one. My 2.8hp was chinese, it lasted for 4years and the fourth year I byopassed the governor and did some other stuff, whereas some guys had stock ones that lasted 3days. I think it just depends.

I completely agree with TRK's post. I don't care how cheap a Chicom motor is to buy, maintain or rebuild - I wouldn't even consider one of their engines.

I've been researching engines for a kart I'm putting together, and I could buy five Chicom clones for the price of one Briggs Animal. No contest. Make it ten clones for a Briggs and I still wouldn't change my mind.

The Chinese copy/steal designs, junk 'em up and spit 'em out. Personally, I'd be a little embarrassed to run a Chicom motor just to save a few bucks.

Same here man. Its like building a 32 ford and putting a hyundai engine in it :eek:ut:
