Briggs in a crate

#1
I just scored a Briggs in a crate. One of the neighbors that don't care for my hobbies much gave it to me. :scared: Any way putting it together I got 8 head bolts 3 are longer than the others. do they go on the left side of the head? That's all I need thanks. :doah:

Head

My head has only one bolt hole for the side cover in the top. I'ts about centered. The engine is a 73 vintage. Hope that helps. Should I use that diagram. My engine number is 130232-0038-1 if that helps. I have a feeling why he gave it to me :1orglaugh:

Inch pounds ?

What I see is the head is torqued to 140 in. lbs. So I am correct in converting that to roughly 11.5 in. lbs. My torque wrench doesn't have a inch pound from what my eyes are telling me :detective: So......... I assume I am correct?

If you mean foot pounds that is correct (divide by 12). I have a hard time registering foot pounds that low with the wrench I have (click style) which is why I think they reference inch pounds.

Torque wrench

I'm using a clicker also. Another problem I am having is my three long bolts won't go into the holes like the diagram posted earlier. Mine are at the two front side holes at the front of the engine. The third is behind the one at the left looking back to front. I would really like to know what the hell is going on with this engine. My research for that year (model number) of engine shows the diagram is correct. :eek:ut: I don't know, I'm a stickler for detail. I'm going to put them in where they fit, let the torque of the bolt do the work. :scared: I worked on these years ago when I was 13/14 years, now I'm retired thing are a lot different. Back then didn't care much about torque. Didn't know what a torque wrench was, just crissed crossed them, it worked.

Man do I feel like an :censure: hole. I ran a tap down the holes that the long bolts wouldn't go all the way down. I guess the diagram posted earlier was correct. Sorry for the miscommunication on my part. Next I look and listen :surrender:
