Can this be fixed???

I don't think so but I wanted to ask. This arrived in the mail today and in my opinion due to laziness it was ruined. Absolutely nothing in the box to protect it and it rattled around like a marble in a tin can. Box was way to big and it had lots of room to move around. The box looked like it had been in a fight all the way here. Sad, just sad...

Thanks,

Doug

My pseudo-professional opinion is no. I don't know how anyone could braze it back on and keep the fins balanced. Some guys run 'em with broken fins...but it's a sure sign that you probably have another fin that's cracked, given how it was shipped. Only magnaflux will tell.

I still like my family jewels....

If you've ever seen a rotating part explode, it's likely you wouldn't want to see another one, unless it was at a safe distance. Having it rotate between your legs is not a safe distance. :)

It's a cast part. It sees thermal stresses and constant velocity changes. It's junk.
Sorry,
Joe

Can you return it to the seller?
You did not pay for a busted flywheel!!!
Return it to the seller..if he doesn't take it...start a case with Pay-Pal
Ed Zachery!!! I didn't buy a broken flywheel.

I have already sent a return claim through Ebay for it. So we will see what happens.

And I have to agree that there is no telling with out magnafluxing it if any of the rest are damaged. It is a clean break so it happened since it was shipped. I started to express the desire for extra box filler so that it wouldn't get damaged but forgot to ask in the notes section.... I doubt it would have come any different.

I am telling you the box looked like it had been in a fight all the way here....

Joe, YES I have seen and experienced rotational explosion. When I was a 20 or 21 I had a 1964 Falcon that I was Road Racing regularly and very competitively. The old motor was getting tired and I decided to build a new motor for it. Well I had a very good friend that I was buying parts through and he keep preaching that I needed a scatter shield since I was turning the thing 7,500 RPM's and sometimes a few hundred over that. I liked to launch the car at 5,500 and would side step the clutch pedal. Very violent hard launch. About half way around the course on the first run with the new motor I shifted gears at 7,500 and the clutch exploded. Now I was not a "lift to shift" guy. I ran it on the mat and changed gears on the mat. She was a tough old bird. Well I had bought a new Lakewood scatter shield when I built the new motor and they are supposed to be good for 2 explosions before they deform beyond reuse. This one was a total loss with just the one explosion. Destroyed the engine block too.

I have not run a stick shift car since without a scatter shield and wont for any reason. Even when running a high dollar clutch, pressure plate and flywheel.

So I understand rotating mass coming apart very, very well. Didn't like it then and don't want to experience it again.

I just can't imagine a seller throwing a 15+ lb flywheel in a box and thinking it would survive. No 5 stars for that vendor.
I had a seller send me a grinder loose in the box and it was broke all to pieces when it arrived.

I don't know what it is lately with the Ebay sellers but they could care less about packing something properly...

I over pack when I ship something myself. But it arrives safe and in one piece.

I bought a complete and rather nice looking h35 last year on eBay. The seller shipped it in a 12x16x12 box with no packaging. Surprisingly, it survived the trip with no real damage, just a dent in the metal half tank :doah:

Had some whack from NY send (to CA) a 40 lb. Denon AVR in a Home Depot box with a dish towel wrapped around it. The power transformer came through the side of the cabinet, out under the bent lid and the carrier handed it to me loose. Wires ripped right out of it. Sent USPS obviously...

You, Sir, sound like one crazy fella. I hope I get to run into you one day. That sure must have been one tough car. I had a 78 Impala that I just couldn't kill. Dropped an old LT1 in it and fed it a steady diet of nitrous. It ate pistons on the best runs. I never broke a block like that though! You're my hero!

Bet you wish you still had that old girl...
