drag bike handling & tire choice

#1
So, the time has come to build a drag bike. I'm having a hard time deciding what tires to run. I love the look of kart slicks, but am afraid they'll be ill handling at the speeds I'm shooting for. My second choice would be jr dragster wheels and tires, but makes for a considerably bigger bike. If I run kart tires it would be 8" wide rear and 5" wide front. Has anyone tried this combo at high speed? The flat profile for a front worries me a bit.

nobody runs a kart tire up front :thumbsup: you want to run a kart tire or jr dragster rear and a street tire up front
What 6" tire other than a kart tire is made for high speed? I've looked high and low. Pocket bike wheels and tires are an option @ 6.5in but I wouldnt trust one of those cast chinese pieces @ 100+mph.

you more than likely will not be running 100 mph :thumbsup: happen to be in the middle of a build and this is what i decided to do it is a 4" wide 6" tristar with precision bearings and a street tire :thumbsup:

Motor is a mild built CR500. Ported, digital ignition, pwk, boysen reeds, etc... 100mph will be easy. This will / be a quarter mile bike.

Where did you source a street tire for a 6in rim? I've only been able to find 8s and 10s.

Hmm. Don't know if I wanna trust a Chinese pocketbike tire at high speed. Guess I'll have to go with a 10in front wheel. Balls. Oh well, would rather play it safe.

Woah, that's a huge tire. I'll stick with a 10 front and go 8 rear for a balanced bike. Wanted to build it small, but I want it safe, well as safe as a 60hp mini bike can be.

Hi gasser;

Take a look at those Dunlop go kart racing rain tires. They're probably my personal favorites. I only wish they came in 4".

All the best, Henry
