Electric Start - wiring / advice

#1
I have electric start and I am told this is an add on as it was never offered.

1. Does anyone have a stencil or decal for the original lettering for the triangular metal panel? I would like to touch up and repaint.

2. Does anyone have a wiring diagram or layout or drawing even photos for this, I would like to redo my wiring and I don't have much to go on?

3. I have a fuse type panel as well - explanations?

I do know it is a three terminal switch and Black is battery, M is the kill wire ( to the magneto) and S (start) ?

Are there any current replacements for these parts?

Please advise -

any pics of what you are looking at?

don't know what make motor you are looking at but if my memory is right on my electric start clone I had 5 wires from my key switch to the motor, eliminated one which was the low oil shutoff but that still leaves more then the three you describe

Is the switch metal (Ground it the frame or common ground)? Got an Ohm meter? With the switch in the off position, should be continuity between the M and the switch. In the on position, should be open (no continuity) between the M and the switch. In the start position, should be continunity between battery the S.

S should run to the (+) small terminal on the solenoid.
M to magneto
B to battery

Battery to large post on solenoid
Other large post on solenoid to starter
(-) small terminal on solenoid to common ground.

Does the fuse panel have common ground?

Hope this is as clear as mud.

I'll dig up a diagrahm and draw out out.
