Engine Bolt Will Not Come Off?

I am working on one of my Baja warriors and taking the engine off to clean/ rebuild her.
One of the four bolts holding the engine will not come off, I have took this engine off several times but this time it does not want to budge.

The bolt may be bent or something but from looking at it I can not tell.
I don't care if it breaks off because I can get another one but does anyone have any ideas they might get it off.

It doesn't matter what way use try to take off the bolt it stays the same so I am thinking it is stripped inside.

That is a good possibility. If the bolt threads into the motor it could be stripped. If that's the case, grab it with a pair of vice grips and PULL OUT on it as you're turning it. Once it's out you will probably have to ream the threads out and put a bolt through with a nut on top.. Or you might be able to clean the threads up with a tap if they are not that bad or have more un-tapped territory above the end of the bolt...

So, the threads go into the motor? If it is just your basic bolt with a nut, I would just cut it off. Angle grinders are only $9.95 at HF (with cpn) and they are very useful.

It is a bolt & nut, I'm done messing with it so I am just going to go to HF and look at some tools, Be nice to have a tool when something like this happens again.

Yeah bolts are a dime a dozen. Slice it off with your new 9 dollar angle grinder. That HF stuff is usually about the junkest stuff you can buy but even if it cuts 3 bolts, grinds 12 welds and cuts a tube in half in it's life time it was still worth the easy save of time an less of a pain in the :asshole:

HF seems to be hit and miss. I do a ton of welding/grinding. I've had HF angle grinders last anywhere from 2 months to 4 yrs. I always keep a couple on hand, have 3 "in use" at any given time. One with a cutting wheel, one with the grinding wheel and usually one with a sanding disc.

Try alot of wd40, and let it soak, every little while add a little more, add some force Last night I went through HELL with an old Honda, everything was stuck, clutch bolts, flywheel, clutch, studs, everything

If you can try heating the bolt up with a torch, It can make even the most stubborn of bolts budge,

if all else fails, cut it off!

Oakley, Go down to Sears, Ace, or your local hardware store and get a nut splitter like the ones pictured below. Make sure that you will have enough room to fit it over the nut first. Ogy.

Is the nut just STUCK!! If you can't turn it at all because of rust, get your nut side wrench nice and secured against the motor or something, then get a good tight bite on the bolt and TWIST HIS FKIN HEAD OFF!! :stuart: hell man if it's BAD they will usually just break. If it's stripped you'll have to fenagle it apart or cut it but if it's rusted hit with some lube incase it does move.. but twist the bitch in half. It's not better than you. HAHA!!

another one if you can drill the side of the nut on a flat drill in to the shaft of the bolt and then take a cold chisel and split the nut where the whole is . if you dont know what a cold chisel is its a metal cutting tool like a punch but with a sharp edge . but i think i would do the grinder , its a good reason to but more toys ...eeerrrr ummm tools so you can fix things ya thats it fix things not like were playing .

*Update

First off I would like to thank everyone for there input and I hope others can benefit from the information.

I didn't get a chance to make it up to HF today.
Not to long after after watching sexiest girls on spikes network I went back out to the garage tried a few different methods to remove the bolt and still nothing worked.

I moved some stuff around and got the engine to move around a little bit so I just turned the engine up and any different direction to bend the bolt and after about 3 minutes or so of playing around and putting enough force I snapped the bolt off.

I still need to get a tool to take off stripped bolts in the future if I can not bend it off so I'll need to to go HF tomorrow, I hate going there because I walk in buying one and and find good deals walking out with 10 things.

Just a little more enough, I bought the bike from a kid that didn't know crap about what he was doing or probably how a engine worked but he sold it for $100 and I couldn't pass that up since I love Baja Warriors.

He said... the engine was like new but after taking off the air filter the next day it was full of sand/ dirt and poor power so I am not sure if I can bring the engine fully back to life but we will see tonight when I rebuild the engine and then rebuild the bike and go for a test run tomorrow.

Shelby, :scooter:

I love warriors too:thumbsup: I would by another one in a heart beat if it was under $100.(I got my last one complete just missing the secondary chain for $65:freakout:)
You see baja's regularly for $300 on the local craigs list:repuke: It's not my problem people were stupid enough to buy them for $500. The same goes for manco dingo go karts, seriously, manco has been making them for almost 20 years their nothing special but It doen't matter if it's brand new or a worn out pos people still thing it's worth $600-$800 And that pisses me off cuz I want one.......

ok, I'm done ranting lol

Back on topic, I would do a full inspection on the bike right down to the berrings....It must have been pretty beat to call for a replacement clone. Clones are pretty hard to kill, Briggs and tech are even harder so I'd be Leary.

I am going to do a full inspection and rebuild the bike frame all that good stuff tomorrow since I didn't have time today.

Pretty funny story though, The neighbor across from me saw me working on the mini bike and came over to BS for a little bit. He saw my engine and said he needed a 6.5Hp.

He asked me if I wanted to sell the engine, I told him I know nothing about it because I just got it and it is going to need some work. He offered me a $100 and I sold it to him for that minus the clutch.

I guess he never heard of HF, But just about 15 min. ago he got it running and is happer then Obama is being president.
I am not sure what he is doing with it yet but we will see.
Going to pick up new Greyhound 6.5HP tomorrow :gunsmilie:

for cutting bolts, you can't beat the harbor freight die grinder with cut off wheels.I use mine alot with grinding stones and wire wheels,it will get into places that the angle grinder can't.
