engine size dimensions and hp rating.

Are any of the engines the same outside dimensions with bigger bore and stroke to get a higher hp rating or does the case size just go up with larger displacement engines. reason being trying to buy used engines or machinery to rob an engine from. 3-5hp engines are the same cost as 6-10 hp engines and bigger is better or so i would think.

There are some engines that cover a range of power output with basically the same outer dimensions but there are also different types of engines; flathead vs. OHV, inclined cylinder vs. vertical cylinder, 2-stroke vs. 4-stroke, etc. As a basic rule of thumb, approximately 6 HP or less will fit a minibike frame. Some engines require mods to the engine or minibike to make them fit.

Tecumseh covered a range up to 5 HP with what they called their "small frame" and a few HP ratings in their medium frame and a few with their large frame. Briggs too covers a small range with each engine platform. If you're looking to get an 8 to 10 HP engine sized like a 5 HP you won't find it. Well, that is unless you modify a smaller engine for more power. Just remember that when you modify you're not changing only the HP rating, you're changing the characteristic of the engine too. If that's what you want, great. There's plenty of guidance on this forum for that.
