General Consensus on Suzuki RV125 two stroke

Probably a little off topic but I know we've got a lot of really knowledgeable people on the forum. I've got a coworker selling an RV125, I forget the year, mid to late 70's. I'm pretty interested, but not real familiar with those bikes. I know they are pretty highly regarded, but feel parts may be hard to come by. It is probably about a 90% complete bike. Doesn't run currently. Just kind of wondered what the general consensus is on those bikes and what parts are available. Thanks

Parts are pretty easy to get ,still lots available at the local Suzuki dealership ,the tires are the hardest to come across but now there are many street legal UTV and ATV tires so you can find something suitable .The engine was used in other more popular models so that’s why it’s fairly easy to find parts for them .I do run across rv90’s much more often than the 125’s ,your area might be different ,but nothing wrong with the 125’s

As previously stated, there are LOTS of parts still available. As a test, go on eBay and use "Suzuki RV125" as your search words and you will see.
Make sure and have a comfortable chair as you will be there for awhile...

Do you know what colour it is ? Can probably figure out the year easy enough from that but it really doesn’t matter on the 125 as they are all the same ,at least with the 2 smokers .

It is green. He told me what year it is, I'm just having trouble recalling it at the moment. He's got the side cover off. Due to a no spark issue that he hadn't resolved. I mentioned to him it was probably the points need a quick clean and the gap checked. He didn't sound like he wanted to mess with it at the time. This was about 4 months back before he was considering selling it.

I liked the size and feel of the one I had better than the RV90's I had at the same time. It was much bigger and more street dual/purpose ridable I felt. But it was a beater and just came in the deal with a 90 I bought as a match to the 90 I already had. If you look real close you will see a battery rigged on the back on the rack and a standard 12v automobile coil hose clamped to the front frame rail. They literally wired up, with switches even, all that instead of replacing the bad coil/s. It actually worked and I ran the bike a little bit (its running in the last pic, lighting coils worked, powered the headlight etc.. as you can see) just had to charge up the external battery to do it, and the guy that bought it from me was even able to take it on a test drive :D

Yeah @markus really more of a motorcycle instead of a mini bike. But I know everyone on the site fiddles with more than just mini bikes. So I knew you guys would have a good info on the bike. @markus that is exactly how the one looks that my coworker has, minus the rigged 12volt system. haha

I'm just a sucker for vintage trail bikes in general. I've got a CT70 that needs some love'n. Half way through a 12 volt harness swap.

@bruces you were right about tires being hard to come buy. At least in the factory size. Been searching around. I can find narrower dirt bike tires, functional but the fat tires are part of the bikes charm. Atv tires are fatter than stock, but probably the best bet. Just trying to prepare myself for possible sticker shock.

I have found them in England before ,but only one or two at a time and it was certainly just dumb luck that I found any at all .They call the Suzuki Rv’s “Van Van’s” over there ,and they did move to the completely different 4 stroke models many many years ago ,I joined a Van Van forum from over there and found some tires through that .Good luck in your search .
