A guy at work knows I tinker with small engines and tractors in my free time. He was asking me about his cub a few days ago. I offered to come down to his house and look at it.
Its a 3 year Old Cub Cadet 1000 Series. Not sure what the model number is exactly. I know it has a 25HP Kohler twin, and is hydrostat drive.
His problem 3 weeks ago was the deck broke off where the blades mount through the deck, he bought a brand new deck and put it on.
This week he went to start it and the starter won't turn it over without a huge struggle. So he bought a brand new starter and battery. Still struggles to turn over. But will start and run perfect.
I told him I'd look at it, and do some reading.
I did a little research and found these motors don't have a compression release, which was his thoughts on what was going on. It probably only needs a simple valve adjustment.
Well, I went in his office this morning to tell him and he said hey you want that cub? I was like no I don't really want to spend any cash on a broken tractor, but I'll come down and fix it for you for free. I think I have it figured out. He said just come down and load it in your truck its yours. I went and bought a new tractor last night.
So now I am going to drag home another tractor that needs work.
I have an Ariens GT17 sitting there that needs finished, a snapper that needs a new drive wheel(rubber came apart), and now this Cub.
Also have a 1970 Cub Cadet 128 that runs like a champ, and a Cub Cadet 107, and 3 lawn boy push mowers.
My toy garage is getting filled up with working tools, not toys! But I couldn't pass up a free tractor that was at least 2,500 bucks 3 years ago. I'll fix it and throw it on c-list and make a few bucks
