injuntom, posting more pictures of that 2 stroke you where asking about. don't know much about it. but it looks to have a diaphram carb on it. same kind that comes on tecumseh engines. could it be a tecumseh? i have a tape measure next to it, so you can get a ideal on size and also next to a 3hp tecumseh. crankshaft looks to be 5/8 without a keyway. only uses two allen screws to hold it in place.

Yes, that is a tecumseh two stroke from a single-stage snowblower, I have one sitting that I got froma good friend; in my garage that I just rebuilt the carb on, and scraped the carbon out of the exhaust ports. It runs great, I did run the oil a bit rich though(just in case) and fouled the plug out 2 times.

Not sure of the HP rating, but this thing would fly on a friction scooter!! If you wanted to put a centrifugal clutch on, you would have to find one that has setcrews, like my mini's Max Tourque. Hell, With a custom-made expansion chamber, it might make a nice little screamer in a mini!!!

Just for your information that shaft has a half moon key. i have one of these engines and it runs great! i'm planning on putting it on one of my scooters the cool thing about these engines is that about 90% of the engine is Aluminum, only little parts of the engine like the bolts, piston rings, etc are steel, this makes it a VERY lightweight engine

Anopther nice thing i noticed about this engine when i took it apart is that it has a compression release which makes it turn over REAL easy, you will notice that its under the cover just above the carb.

austin, your correct  i grab a flashlight and look down the key way grove on the end of the sporcket and could see a key way inside.
motra, you think that engine puts out 2.5hp for sure or maybe only 2.00hp.
i can't seam to find any numbers on it ? maybe i have to look little harder:doah:
i do have two more 2-strokes,but they look to be little more bigger and newer. also i am still using them in my snow blowers. they look to be about 2.5hp-3.00hp ? they make a great twin engine project bike:thumbsup:

also thinking what kind of clutch would work with this type of engine? i would think you would have to use a higher stall speed or i should say a stiffer set of springs in your clutch before it locks up ?

Never thought of that Delray, of course, I do not really know where the engine on these two strokes is tuned for. When you see them doing snow duty, they really dont rev very high.

these engine idle pretty low, you might be able to get a normal clutch to work on it, i am modifing a Max-Torque clutch that has a broken out keyway to fit on the shaft. i'll give updates once i get it to work or not.

That tecumseh 2 stroke

It is off of a Toro sno pup that was the first generation paddle style single stage snow thrower, the darn things actually had plastic paddles instead of rubber ones. The gutless little pig is rated at 2.5 H.P. and has next to NO torque. They are all but useless on a minibike. I made a custom motor mount for one years ago and tried it on an old hardtail Manco frame with 6 inch wheels. I used an 11 tooth Maxtorque and a 60 tooth rear sprocket. Then I tried the later model ones used on the toro 620's. They had around 3.5 HP but still no torque. Same results,a gutless pig.

HMMMM!!!!

Got a mini bike i just picked up has one of these motors. Runs pretty good. Very hard to get tuned in for some reason. carb is cleaned to the best of my abilitly. Its an alright motor for a mini

i'm going to mount mine to my fox and see how it runs. i believe with a properly made pipe it will haul my 160 lbs around. my fox already has a 2.5 HP engine on it so i will see how it runs. if that engine doesn't work out, i always have a bigger 3.5HP Tec. 2-cycle that will bolt right on.

the only way one of them small engines would work ok is to install a jackshaft and gear it down and install it on a small frame for a kid to ride:thumbsup:
a 60t rear sprocket is not enough gearing on a 6inch rim with a 12-13+ tire(height)........ i think it would be kind of cool to see a kid riding a 2-stroke and the engine just a scream'in across the yard.........................:scooter:

Did you try a jackshaft? Surely it'll need more multiplication than an 11T straight into a 60T

Anybody pulled the carb & had a look down inside the intake manifold?

On the engine that I have. It appears that a drill was used to drill the port in 3 locations side by side. This process left 4 little triangles (2 on top of the port & 2 on the bottom) remaining in the flow path. A little bit of dremel work to clean up the port & remove these obstacles might really wake up the little engine.

If anyone gives this a try. I would really like to hear the results.

Thanks
