MAX weight limit on a db30s

#1
Hello, I am a new member and this is one terrific link! Lots of bright, experienced folks who wrench and know mb details. I just bought a DB30s with the stock 2.5 Baha motor, and was wondering what the max weight it would REALLY hold. I bought it to fix up and flip, but I was thinking of upgrading the motor and tires, and do a little puttzing around on it myself. I am 250 lbs (trying to lose a little), is this weight simply too much for this 150 lb rated frame, or could I juice it up and have a little fun with it? (strictly street riding down the back alleys) Please excuse me if this has been addressed already, and if so, point me to those discussions. Thanks!

Lots of members have those and are 250lbs +.......not saying its safe but.....:scooter:
Emphasis on the plus.

I get a kick out of the videos posted here with kids riding the same minis the rest of us are riding and how much faster they go...or watching the grandkids take off on some of mine, and me wishing I only weighed 55 pounds.

The advice i have gotten on this forum is to add a harbor freight predator engine to your bike , they can be had for $99 & you can either mount it by drilling holes in your frame or just buying a mounting kit and it will drop right in. Than add a torque converter and you will have a really fast bike that should make your front tires lift up even if your over 250lbs .

Hello vintageguy2!

I am 335 pounds, a fat ape of a man. I ride an old style DB30. The only suspension mods I have done are Carlisle Snow-Hog tires and a Motovox MBX11 hydraulic fork assembly.

I ride mine around a rough yard and have not broken anything yet.

I'm one of those members at 285 lbs.
Ours held up very well including some good off road riding. I would highly recommend getting your self a good seat made (thick, plush), however, as with a stock DB that is your only "suspension". The stock seat really sucks in this regard...

Weld it up and add some gussets both side of frame and any other weak spots. And you will be able to have all of the fun you want with it. But do not fill the tires to tight for give when you land. Have fun!
