Need valve lash specs..

I just bought a 6.5 clone off a guy who had changed out its valve springs to heavier ones..The engine was brand new in the box and it would not start when I tried to start it..Backfired out the exhaust and no compression..I correctly assumed he had the lash way to tight..I set the lash at .005 and it purrs like a kitten but I am seeing all sorts of different number out there for the clearance..What should it be?(engine cold)

I set both of them at .003 with no problems whatsoever.

Some guys like to do .002 intake and .003 exhaust, but I personally see no difference.
