New Harbor Freight Predator Engines

#21
HF is advertising/marketing the "Predator" as their REPLACEMENT ENGINE for the previous (Greyhound) 6.5 HP. If either of your HF blue clones takes a dump and needs replacement/exchange as per your extended warranty I would firmly insist to them that you want a replacement ENGINE (i.e., Predator) and not a $$$ REFUND.

I wonder what other names they were thinking of when they decided on "Predator" ???

The Predator in the movie was a very intellegent creature based on cutting edge technology that was ultimately decieved by mud and exploded.

HF website says "Precision machined aluminum alloy crankcase with heavy duty cast iron cylinder."

So it's not a cool bore. It has a cast iron sleeve.

If you look at the .pdf, it shows dual crank bearings too.

Looks like we'll have to wait for someone to buy one and tear into it to dispell the rumors floating around..
I am hesitant to take mine for replacement until I know for sure, I'm going for a refund if the rumors are true.

Yeah, I bought 4 of the old blue ones @ $67.00 each including tax. I had already purchased 2 at $90.00 and those are the ones in my current Doodlebugs.
One of the recent 4 will be used in my new stretched Doodlebug. Two are going to be stored as back up engines and I sold the 4th one to a neighbor for a future mini bike project.

I'm looking forward to what you guys find out about these things.

Just called the HF where I purchased the last 4. They still have 8 of the old ones and with the 20% coupon, they're only $59.96.

I may go buy 2 more....Worse case scenario is I sell them for at least what I paid for them, if not more.

Went ahead and picked up two more today at $59.98 each. Have a total of 4 new in boxes as back up. two more I used for the yellow and green one, another one for the new silver bike and the 8th one I sold to my neighbor for his future bike project.

Seriously, it;s almost a joke that they are so good and so cheap.

OK this is a new-b question....are the Predator motors still Honda clone? Will all of the hop parts fit this motor? Or is it still unknown?

If anyone wants to give me a good deal on the old harbor freight motor I am in the market.

It doesn't say they have the cast iron sleeve anymore, Its say HFX1 aluminum sleeve. I would keep the old style engine and rebuild it to keep the cast iron sleeve.

From reading around, the cam, crank, rod and piston are different. The good news is I was on NR's website this morning and I see they are offering cams for the new engine. My guess is that a rod will be available before too long, we'll just have to wait and see.

Just FYI... but it appears that my Baja Warrior 200 I just picked up from CL that was only about 2 months old also has the same "Predator" engine on it... so far everything on the outside is the same, the ruxing carb that is not adjustable (the float bowl is riveted to the carb, there is no screw on the bottom of the bowl into the jet) the tank mounts are the same and the block and head casing all appear to be the same....

"...there is no screw on the bottom of the bowl into the JET." How is the bowl removed to access and upgrade to a larger jet?

You can't from what I've discovered, basically another version of the epa low emissions stuff where you can change anything, the low speed needle is recessed as well... and I tried for 20 minutes to get the bowl off, it ain't coming off, I tried pliers

If the internal specs are the same, that means no cams will work... I guess I'll engine swap

Not good news for when the time comes to upgrade the air filter and exhaust and the jet needs to be enlarged.:scared: If that is indeed the case, I guess the entire carb will need to be replaced with one with an accessible jet:eek:ut:?

Ok. I just looked at Predator I have in box, it does have a float bowl bolt, the baja 200 does not.... I wonder if the baja insides are the same as the 196 or 212/208 engines.... the baja block is very similar to predator, like the tank mounts, the carb looks the same except the float bowl screw

Hello! I am new here but I have been browsing the forum for about a week.
I am working on a mini-chopper build, which I understand is not quite on board with this forum, but this is the only forum I can find that really knows what they are doing, especially when it comes to honda clone engines. The reason I didn't start a new thread is that I am here to talk about the predator engines. I recently bought the 212cc model this weekend and I have pictures in exchange for some answers.
First question: Can anyone if these are real clones or too far from the honda to use the aftermarket parts? Specifically, the billet rod, as I have jumped the gun a little and already torn out the inside governor.
I can take more pictures but here is what I have now.
I take requests.
(Actually I can't get this picture uploader to work right so you will get them when I can put more up...)
