I have 4 motors I can't identify, I have a couple recoil covers but none match perfectly, is there another way to find out the HP on them? If none are 3hp I'm going to scrap them, one I know is an older 2hp but what about the other 3?
You should be able to see 6 or 8 cast into the different parts. That's the CID, the 3.0 and 3.5 are 8's. Look between the fins on the head.
Or you can pop them open and take some measurements.
The displacement number should be cast into the head on the left front corner, between the fins. Sometimes the number is also cast into the block on the output shaft side, near the breather. Like randy said 8=3hp 6=2hp or 2.5
