Our minibike guru gone?

I, LIKE MANY OTHERS ON THIS SITE, REALLY LIKED MARKUS. WHEN I GET ON THIS SITE, I ALWAYS LOOK FOR CERTAIN PEOPLE AND READ THEIR STUFF. MARKUS WAS ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE THAT ALWAYS HAD INTERESTING COMMENTS AND VIDEOS. I LEARNED A LOT FROM HIM. IN THE 2017 BUILD OFF HE COMMENTED ABOUT MY ENTRY. I DIDN'T WIN ANYTHING WITH THAT ENTRY BUT HIS COMMENT MADE ME FEEL LIKE A WINNER. HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS LOOKING AT AND KNEW WHAT I WAS TRYING TO DO. I ALSO WANT TO SAY THAT I REALLY LIKED HIS LAST VIDEO WHERE HE REBULT THE MOTOR AND KEPT THE PATINA ON THE OUTSIDE. YEP, 50 IS TOO YOUNG BUT THINK ABOUT IT, THIS MINI BIKE HOBBY KEEPS ALL OF US YOUNG... EVEN US OLD FARTS.

RIP MARKUS

this is very odd as Markus posted a video of a build he did about a week ago. he seemed fine.
he was super educated on all things mini, but man, the guy hated me. nearly every chance he got he made that pretty clear. that said though, in the last 6 months, i felt like i was making in-roads to chill that ice. i bet it wasn't more than 2 weeks ago he had that New 1972 HS50 thread with a brain teaser question, and i was the only one that got it right. He posted that, and called me by my full first name (which no one does, except my mother, who isn't around any more.) i read that as a bit of a dig, but was willing to take it as a "win" in the he-won't-hate-me-forever category. my understanding is he felt www.pinrepair.com/minibikes website was a truly bad thing, especially my snowblower-to-minibike tecumseh conversion document. but in retrospective, that website and documents are there for this *exact* reason... because no one lives forever and wanted to document some of the great information Markus and Ben Edge posted, figuring the internet does live forever. And tecumseh rebuild info is nice to have in one place... but i am in shock about Markus' passing. he knew so much...

Well it's not strange that he seemed fine a week ago, Heart Attacks don't call ahead and tell you they are coming, ask me how I know :)
All I can input to that is see your doctors regularly and take the meds when they tell you.
Lost 2 friends in the last 6 months because they skipped the doctor appts for too long. Both were younger than me.

That said, whatever may have perceived as a slight is probably just attributed to internet dis-association.
We can show emotions in person, online it all comes across as "what do they Really mean by that?"
Anyway do what you do, it's all good with the info. Like you said, the internet is permanent and we are not.
Peace out,

Keith

I find times of loss make most of us reflect on our own lives a bit more. It could have easily been any us old coots taking Marks place in eternity. I also find it cool that we come together to honor this man's legacy here. The guy gave us a lot of his wisdom, just for the asking. He will be missed. Many can walk his steps, but few can fill his shoes....

Still hard to believe we won't be getting his answers to so many questions that we asked that only Mark had the answers to, A loss that can't be replaced, I still find it incredible the knowledge he had about these vintage minibikes, I had to put some projects on hold due to some injuries I had about a month ago so I haven't been doing much except talking to Mark about rebuilding a 10 hp for me when I was able to get it boxed up, he said he had never done one but send it when I was able, I wasn't able to get it done but when I strolled into the garage this morning and saw these two black motors sitting on the shelf that belong to those two projects that I'm knee deep in that he rebuilt for me it made me smile because I will have those bikes until I'm done, He rebuilt several motors for me over the last few years and I would paint and decal them but I had him paint and decal these last two, a 4hp and a 5hp because they are my keeper bikes and I wanted the motors to be completely Markus motors, they sit on the shelf in good company, A 5hp Skipp rebuilt for me and a h50 125 crazy sold me, I didn't mean to ramble on but looked at those motors and just had to share some thoughts about our Guru, So many knowledgeable helpful talented quality people on this forum, Thank you, Thanks Mark....
