Painting engine block

#1
Hey guys, i want to paint my gx200 block and i want to use duplicolor satin black engine enamel on the actual block and Dupli-Color Metalcast Aerosol Paint Enamel, Orange Anodised, 311g for my head. should these hold up against the motor heat of the motor? they are both rated to 500 degrees farenheit so will these be fine or will it bubble up and get ruined? Do a test spay on a clean piece of metal. To make sure you like it. I would use a clear coat over it like Spray Max 2k. This will protect it from gas.

i used duplicolor engine enamel in white on a few h35s, and in two years its still on even by the exhaust port and hasnt discolored. the ex pipe looks like dirty chalk, i guess that was a little too hot for it. the clear should help retain the satin finish if ya get it muddy but it will make more glossy. the metalcast wont hold up unless it high temp type

Consider powder coating the block. I did mine and and it has held up great. Doesn't mind the heat at all and is near impossible to chip too.

so will i need primers? and what clear should i use and does it need to be heatproof??
I went to supercheap auto and asked about the metalcast stuff awhile back, the guy said I needed the duplicolour basecoat for it. The engine enamel will go straight on without primer. May I recommend the duplicolor autospray, I used it to paint my entire bike and all the bolts on my flathead.

wait so i will need a basecoat for the metalcast paint but not the engine enamel? so engine enamel straight on and the basecoat and then metalcast on top?

Yes, just ask one of the staff and they will probably say the same for the metalcast. Although the primer is recommended for the engine enamel I spray it on without any issues.
