Mark my words I’ll get the correct smog pump sooner or later... In case some time passes and I get forgetful here’s my simplified setup so far.. copied from Justin W YouTube channel who built this and sold it to the mike clements museum..

The double clamp boot in the pwk kit will make clamping the pwk directly to the pump inlet a breeze.. DF449F19-68FB-400B-8DA9-88F6A5EB0358.jpeg 371AA239-C38E-4083-B515-3BDC3ACF7953.jpeg 97BCDA97-B9F8-49D3-8193-C98D2BB871D5.png

Ya but how is he gonna space out the pulley from the flywheel??

Well I put about 37 seconds of thought into it and figured I could weld a pulley to a raptor starter nut? These engines can be started with an old school beefy drill with the ratchet attachment.

I don’t think the cam I’m gonna use a comp release for pull starting anyway. So the pulley welded on will still leave the nut exposed for the socket to fit on.. But we will see.. 029D2A60-4A12-4BDE-9CE5-1C4EA4F2F575.jpeg 6DB8DE35-0D84-4AF8-A235-5EC8A20030DB.jpeg

I always miss something when I post... I should have said that double clamp boot in the pwk kit will make mounting the pwk carburetor to the large PUMP inlet port EASY..

Shortest tube I can make from the small pump outlet port to this cut up 3hp intake.. That way it’s just a tube from the pump outlet to the intake inlet... As simple as it needs to be but be warned!! NO SIMPLER!! 00649C1D-9080-4787-B405-167716318AD4.jpeg 0A89719D-86AA-45B1-9F88-40DCEC3799EB.jpeg

I hope you have a high speed video camera. It will be nice to know what lets go first, if it decides to play land mine.
Is there a plan to remove blow-by gasses from the crankcase?
So far I have the billet parts the pump and a boot that should make mounting the carb to the pump itself easy. I have a cut up 3hp intake for the tube to connect the outlet of the pump to the engine intake port.

I’m going to make the pump mount and finish off with a pulley on the flywheel. Once I’m at that point I could drill and tap a side cover for a breather. I can make gaskets so I’ll be pulling the pump apart to give it a good cleaning inside and out.

What are the odds I just drill one hole bolt the pump to the bracket and tighten the engine mount bolts? Run the turnbuckle? installed? Only time will tell..

Idea for the mount stolen from google “smog pump mount” generic search. And if this bracket isn’t exactly what I need I’ll copy it from plate steel in a configuration I need it to be. 7AFC2412-0520-4B33-8FCC-A0207C1304AB.jpeg D8B92333-1937-4541-9EEC-3D20290071F5.jpeg F66785CA-0D97-4D3E-959C-89220F843292.jpeg

I can confirm Justin W used an Mg smog pump.

Now I have zero idea of why he milled a second outlet into his pump. Air flows out of his pump outlet through a box then into the intake tube? If he didn’t mill off the stock outlet the tube would of been a closer straighter shot to the inlet? And there would be zero need for that box it’s draw through?

The only idea I can really come up with is his pump was broke in that spot and he fixed it with the billet two port outlet deal?

Speaking of sbc stuff I’m hoping it’s as easy as removing the flywheel nut swapping the starter cup for a water pump pulley then re-torquing the flywheel nut.

That box could be an intercooler of some sort?
You genius! I bet your right!

although a good idea it makes me think he modified the pump to much and also the clutch guard mounted tilly. Fuel mix having to travel through the intercooler and all that it seems a bit to much for a prototype. I’m gonna get a 5hp built/painted and running reliable with a stock carburetor. Once it proves at least reliable enough I’ll bolt up the smog pump as simple as possible.

Is that box a blowoff valve?
It would make more sense to have one out there, than expecting the head gasket to act as a blowoff.
It’s most likely an intercooler
I can usually find what I’m looking for if the internet sells it but a small compressor pop off at like 2-5 psi doesn’t seems to exist. I was hoping to DUMP Anything past say 5psi (If it will make that much)
