TC2 Torque Converter OR Billet Rod, Flywheel, and Removed Governor?

#1
I finally got my clone engine to run smoothly. Starts up each time and runs like a champ. However, I noticed that with my current gearing 12t/72t it has amazing acceleration with plenty of torque, but the top end sucks. I think I'm maxing out at 20mph before the governor kicks in.

Debating if I should use the extra $200.00 I have to buy a TC2 torque converter OR upgrade to an ARC rod, ARC flywheel, and remove the governor?

What would be the best bang for my money if I want to reach 40 mph without sacrificing too much low-end torque?

A t/c is going to give you more low as it has ~2.7 low end. Your 72/12 gives you a 6:1 and with the t/c you wil have ~16:1 starting and 5.4:1 for high end. If you decide on a t/c, also get a rear sprocket (60 or maybe even a 54) to pick up your upper end speed.
