weird Taco 44 serial #

I have a Taco 44 with the serial # on the engine plate top and bottom and does not have the usual date code the steering neck has been reinforced like a Zebra anyone seen these?

That's an old California Highway Patrol stamping. They used this before the "blue tags" with rivets that they use now. Alot of old Harley frames have DRF numbers stamped in them.

thanks ED .....maybe for a OHV green sticker .....only in Calif..anything for tax money...i do remember seeing a id tag on a mini.....its got the 70P taco id so 1970

DRF stood for Department Registry File. It was the prefix for the assigned vehicle registration numbers the CHP issued through the 60s
