So this is he deal.. Ive got a old frame.. Pics to come soon. :) and a couple of 3hp briggs. I would like to put together some bikes for me and the wife to scoot around on..Its a little hilly and will prob see some dirt roads... It doesnt need to be that fast.. So is a 3hp going to be enought to push or fat butts around..

You may want a TAV or a jackshaft to gear the bike for the hills. Those are good running engines, They won't do 60+mph like someone posted here a while back, But are still a good engine.
I,m putting a DB30 together for a friend of mine, So his son can to learn to ride. I have a super clean stock Briggs 3hp engine going on it.

3hp should be ok for you. what kind of weight are we carrying. under 200? jackshaft also wound be a big help. top speeds would be only about 20+mph,but thats ok with you. you said you didn't want to go fast. jackshaft setup will give you that lowend torque you need to pull you around good. and also keep the clutch lock up better from slipping..........:scooter:

I like a 5hp or bigger , it will be a lot better for hills and dirt roads, the 3 hp may be ok for paved roads.

You will not get much more if any more top end out of a 5hp but it will go up hills better and get up to speed a lot better.

You say fat butts, how much you weigh makes a lot of difference with these little engines.

Tote Gotes were made for hills and dirt roads. The model B was 3hp and would carry an adult anywhere.
I have some old silent 8mm movie clips from around 1968 or '69 of three of us riding our Model B...

My dad is driving, my younger brother, midwestx is sitting in his lap, and I'm on the rumble seat in the back...

In a few of the clips, there's also a gutted deer draped over the back, and I'm sitting on top of that...

We used to go camping or hunting every weekend, even in the winter, and always took the Gote with us...used to park it near the campfire each night to melt all the snow and ice that would get packed in around the drivetrain...

Awesome bike...that's why it was my choice for 'best mini ever' a while back...

Got some pics

So here are some pics.. I would love to put a tav on them but they dont have the bolt holes in the side cover for it.. as for a jack shaft.. Do they have a bolt on verstion.. Ive got a wielder but my skills SUCK.... I was hoping i could just put the smalles drive sprocket on the engine and the biggest drive sprocket on the wheel... Not sure of my clearances yet.. Like I said.. Im not looking to go very fast.. As for weight.. we both weigh about 150-160.. DONT tell her i said that.. hahahah:hammer:

yup im 160 and iv got a 3hp on a renolds with no jackshaft and itll take me around offroad up hills and stuff just fine. Youll have to go through it and make sure its giving all the power it can. check valve clearances and compression and all that.

I look at it this way... Say that you and the bike weigh 300 lbs. That's a lot to ask out of a 3HP engine. It would be like using a 30HP engine to move your 3000 lb. car. Not fun at all.
