Seems like every bike I pick up is a spoke wheeled bike lately....
Trying to get a budget and plan together for the Indian mt5a, parts are scarce for these things unfortunately. It has 10" 28 spoke wheels. I have 2 sets of 28 spoke wheels Both NOS But they are both wider than what is on the mt5a :doah: Worst case I can probably fit them, but it may be noticeable as this bike is small and skinny.
Digging around I see alot of these CRF50 "pit bike" style bikes are using 28 spoke 10" and they also use the same sized 2.50x10 tire that the mt5a has on it. so I am wondering if maybe the wheel bands are skinnier than the common size used on the vintage mini bikes.
so if any of you guys maybe have one of these "pit bikes" (or anything with 10" 28 spoke) in your collection could you do a rough measurement of the width of the rim???? I'm looking for something in the 2 1/4" range, the common width I'm coming up with on the vintage spoke wheels are around 2 5/8" I know that does not seem like much but if I put one of those wheels next to the Indians wheel its very noticeable!!! If I can find a wheel with skinny band I'll just rip the spokes and hub off and restring my originals in.
Found this pic online of one of these bikes all put together, little kid kinda helps put the bikes size into perspective:
