Well they were tested in the current issue of Road Bike magazine, and they said that they work well. Have you ever tried them?

i heard they use golf balls to balance tractor trailer tires

There used to be a harmonic balancer for small block Chey motors that was called the "Rattler" which I believe used the same system. My thought is that an old school mini bike tire has such a small diameter and revolves so slowly that balancing one would be on par with a fat lady exhaleing before stepping on the scales.

I see what you mean.
But I think it could work for those who run 10 inch wheels, and maybe race too.
