Briggs & Stratton 5HP 27mm Jieli

#1
Hello, im new to this forum, and 4 strokes. Know the basics, how it works, what can go wrong, how to tune it and port & polish shit. Know alot about 2 strokes and porting on them and about carbs.
My brother is convincing me that a 27mm Jieli carb is NOT needed on a 5HP, not even on a 8HP wich is on a buggy (you can see it here if you are interested, 600 hours of work, trial and error and finaly its here! max speed of 35km/h but insane power. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LK_E_ynYB2w)
I am building a Indian board tracker replica, 5HP Briggs, 24/26 inch bicycle wheels with wide dirt tires and a custom sheet metal tank.
Any help with the engine would be appreciated. Need to tune the valves, new membrain on stock on tank carb, i dont wana mess with that because i have a brand new one.

way too much carb! Remember, a smaller carb will keep intake velocity up, unless you are always running 9000RPM. Setting a land speed record...perfect!
A 20mm or 22mm would be fine. Too much carb and you have no low end power...and you need it down low to get you moving

Crap... Now i have to tell my brother he was right. But on a 8 horse it would work ok right? So i have to get a 20mm carb, plan is not to go over 4800-5000. Want that engine to last. Clutch will be a belt drive to a drive shaft with a bicycle chain. Thanks on the fast reply!

20mm is good! ...and so is your English!

The 8HP engines typically have very little aftermarket support...and yes, too much carb for the 8HP as well. Now pay up!

Thanks, gonna try to give a little more for a real carb, not those 13$ knock offs that work 7 minutes and then melt/break. This Jieli i have is an original Japanese carb with a serial number. Anything 20mm will work, as long as its not from China. And im sorry but i have to ask again, would a 27mm carb work ok-ish on a 12.5hp block? I have a 8 hp block that cracked but it was fixed with JB weld i think thats how you call it, that grey liquid thingy that hardens and its like metal. All that block need are piston rings, a piston and a carb. The 8 horse that is on a buggy has a 12.5 carb on it and it works like a charm!

Thanks for the help, this just proves i dont have a clue about 4 strokes. I quess they dont need so much carb because they dont have to draw the... the thingy gas/air mix stuff in the crank case then from transfer ports to the cylinder? Am i even close?
