Cheap, quick way to clean up carbon build up in combustion chamber and ports?

Like Rocky Balboa, I'm stupidly getting back in the ring with a Tec OH60. Decided I'd rebuild from ground up--was an oil burner and I need to clean up the head and exhaust ports. Anyone have any suggestions for cleaning all the carbon build up out without access to a media blaster? I'm a little nervous using anything stronger than a soft wire wheel to get the loose stuff out.

Hey rocky good to see you back in the ring. Try some pb blaster and let it sit for a couple hours or longer and wipe the carbon away.

Cool, thanks! I'm up and sometimes I stagger but I'm still fightin' Recovery has progressed well!

Be careful.
No lifting.
I use the wire wheel method and have had no issues.
PB Blaster sounds much easier.

PB Blaster to the Rescue

As John G. suggested, I soaked the head and piston in PB Blaster. The task wasn't as easy as just wiping the crud off--but PB Blaster did the trick. A little more clean-up to do, though...

lacquer thinner does a good job too. (Per OGY) I'm too poor to try it. Stuff's expensive.

Yup, used carb cleaner, brake cleaner, 0000 steel wool and a plumber's pipe brush on the exhaust port. Does look a lot better and I can get to the valve seats now!
