Didn't I have a Cat 1 of 1 ever made thread here yesterday?

It is my cat , you can see it in my old posts .

All pissing aside. I had it on craigslist about 2 months ago. I've owned it better part of 10 years or close.

The builder contacted me (2 months ago) If I could sell it to him and the builder is from canada. He worked for Cat and said he built it himself. It is a cat 300x frame with folding pegs , the 250 bars were used and in house built fenders made by him. They were supposed to sell them like this , but cost was too much and the cat 300x and 400x were brought to you. I'm no Cat expert . I like them , but I'm too big for small cats.

It is his story, he described it to a key without detailed pictures. So I'm not doubting him nor am I believing him. I never changed my price of it even with the "new-found" information . It is still the same old $300 obo with 2 running motors, a noram clutch, original wheels and tires with stars and a rear kidney bean wheel with drum setup .

So no big deal . Not like I upped the price to $1,000,000 . I never changed the price . The original owner/builder offered me $400 without engine shipped to canada. I do not ship to Canada. I got reemed on a Tamiya Superchamp I sold to Canada on customs BS. Nor have I ever shipped a mini.

So if you are interested , I have it. I have the "builders" e-mail either way. It's a sweet little ride. Story being real or not.

The fender story makes no sense to me, nearly none. So they were at the factory where all those Cat parts were and never though to bolt on some 400X fenders but instead built flat fenders that I bet do not do well at high speeds. Just makes no sense.

This was before they had the other models released is what I gained from our emails. This was a "Idea" of a model to be released. The fenders are thick as heck and not flat they are bead rolled and have a design to them. It may not look like they are thick , but they are . It would take a fair amount of force to even bend them . They do not move at all at close to 40MPH.

If you look at other pics I posted here you will see the full detail . Like I said It is a "story" that was told to me . That is all. That is all I take it for, hence never changing my price. all I can say is "cool story" If it is true , cool. If it is not. Still $300 OBO.

Probably $300 in value if one is looking for a nice little rider and the engines are both good, the Noram clutch could be a good one. I just didn't ever see the fenders being made in a minibike shop where tools are available to work metal. I could hand hammer a fairly decent round over if I took the time to make the right forming die that would chuck up in a vise so I could work the edge. Maybe he was just not a sheet metal guy or HPE contracted the fenders they offered and hadn't the equipment to do the job. It's a neat little bike, I never questioned the price or the value and did not mean to offend. Good luck on the sale.

Great story, Rare CRX? does that mean one of these??

I want to hear that story
Sure Jeff.

Yes one of my vehicles I own is a 1987 CRX si. It has 90K original miles, never driven in the rain, always garaged since bought new . It is very mint condition. I have , over the years, accumulated a parts stash that is very rare to the crx's . New in box floormats (a set sold for $1450 recently) most every Factory optioned accessory offered (Oem car cover, CDM wing, Visors blah, blah) as well as most all new in box performance accessory. From DC to Mugen. I have well over $3000 in suspension alone.

This was a chore as most all of the parts were discontinued from the dealer, from parts vendors etc. I had to hunt them for years on end.

It may not be everybody's "cup of tea" , but neither are old minibikes , right:laugh:

I also own a 1965 mustang as well for the "import" haters.

Nah. Never was offended buddy. I am not a metal guy at all . There is close ups somewhere of the fenders. I'm writing term papers right now to go and dig around. If you can look them up and check them out. Give me your opinion on them as a metal guy. I cant bend pipe-cleaners into a stick figure.

I am in the medical field.

There is a historical thread here, and there is a section on Cat (HPE.Muskin) I and Gerry put together. Why don't you edit any personal data and post the historical aspects of the email?

In Japan, women drive Hondas and Miatas. Men drive Nissans. :hammer: My son's 400 HP 89 SR20 sits next to my 67 Dodge RT in the garage. We both like both. He had the 180 in Japan. I prefered the 1JZ in my Toyota, and it was quicker than my R33 by a long shot. We don't descriminate.

Well, If this IS one of one with hand made fenders I can see why it got nixed. Those fenders would have cost a fortune to make compared to a stamped unit.

So did the guy have any original pictures or anything like that? Maybe even something personal from his days working at the factory? Might be interesting to find out.

There is one thing that I've learned since getting into mini bikes and that is that nothing was 100% consistant. Most companies seemed to have built bikes in lots with some consistancy but eventually started finishing bikes off with whatever was available.

I can see that the fenders appear to have a bead rolled into them. Not that it would give them a ton of structural integrity but it'd help. Did that guy put the Bonanza kidney bean on or was that a later owner that did that?

Cool bike, I hope there is some more info to be had on it.
