You would have to rebuild it.. Loss the plug at the end, get battery, clips and a new push button. Just bypassing the stock plug and button. Work. but can be done... go for it.:thumbsup:

what the hell are you taking about, you dont know anything about electric motors.

So why even post that.

He is taking about converting a 120v ac starter to 12dc it can be done but the whole thing has to be redone not just removing the pug and changing it to battery terminals.

Yeah you would have to change the brushes, rewind the coil probably, and change a host of other parts...more cost effective to get a 12v dc motor.

why would you have to change the brushes ?

you could change a 120 v in to a 12 v motor but its not going to be easy or fun . depending on if its series or parallel wound it will turn on dc power ,weak as all hell but will run . you would have to rewind the armature ? the center rotating shaft , i never seem to remember the correct term . for a heaver gauge of wire and reconfigure the fields .

would be easier to take a briggs starter and reconfig the mount and shaft to fit , i would think .
