Someone had cut the front suspension off and welded new pipe. I talked to Ron Kimball and he is sending me the fork prints so I can know the o/d an i/d I need for the forks and how far down to cut and drill holes along with some fork tubes and a gastank. I'm really excited about this project as it will be a surprise for my old man who is 6'6'' 350 so he'll finally have a big boy mini to cruise with me on

OK so I've got all the parts in needed to complete this restro. And my hm80 is running great! I got the forks cut, welded, drilled for springs to the original specs of a vt812 because I'm running the 21in tall 9in wide tire upfront instead of the original 18in tall 8.5in wide tire. Got the front tire mounted great. All that's left is mount new rear tire strip paint, repaint, reassemble, wire up lights\switch, etc IMG_20151120_113332.jpg IMG_20151120_113237.jpg IMG_20151123_202214.jpg IMG_20151130_183934.jpg IMG_20151130_200006.jpg IMG_20151130_184011.jpg IMG_20151130_200537.jpg IMG_20151201_200020.jpg IMG_20151120_113451.jpg IMG_20151120_113146.jpg IMG_20151120_113422.jpg

And actually now I building this bike for me now because I recently just did an 8 hour round trip and picked me up a Heald super bronc vt1040 with the 40 series clutch in pretty good condition and man does it haul ass and lots of torque. So Ill build that bike for my dad next. I figure with my 200lb but on the vt8 and my dad's 400lb but on the vt1040 we should just about even out on speed and take off

Not only will those two bikes haul your father around, they will take him straight up a tree to the top without breaking a sweat.

Wow, nice bike, I was actually talking to Ron last week ordering up some fork parts and I believe he thought I was you! After I assured him mine was a different order, he mentioned that he had sent out prints to a fella who found a bike with forks welded solid.... took me about 5 minutes to convince him mine was a new order!

Haha Thats funny you say that the last time I talked to him he thought I was someone else too. Probably you lol. Then I ordered a new brake band and the schematics for the vt1040 I'll post pics of that soon.... Still stripping the paint on the vt8..

Thanks Doc for encouragement lol

I picked one up from beside a shed last Saturday.VT8. Has a horn! image.jpeg Paid 40.00. I called Ron too. Genuinely nice guy,Getting some of the schematics and templates. When I get it torn down, I'll try to gather more parts. I'm following your build for sure.

Wow Radford that's a steal! And seems like a great starting canvas.
Sooo I guess the forks on both the vt8 and the vt812/vt10 are the same length even though the vt8 has the 18in tall tire. Soo the only difference is the width of the forks
