i need light

#1
hey guys i ride a lot with my friends up in Maine now that i have my new bike but some times there are problems i have encounters. We leave riding about mid day equipped with extra gas ext. but we don't get back till late or afternoon. But i was looking for a considerably better brighter light for my bike and could not find anything. I was thinking they would make a brighter led that uses less or the same power since they are more efficient but i could not find anything. My next idea was just to Jerry rig it and mound a hug bright light on the front running on a custom sized 12v battery mounted between the engine and frame in the front of my worrier. The battery that fits is easy to find i already have one but does anyone now if the first idea the more efficient leds are around or ware if they are?

the led if existant has to fit te baja worrior obviously

thanks guys:smile::shrug:

Good question, I've wondered the same thing. I haven't rode my Warrior at night yet (just the early evening), but I've noticed the light put out by the headlight is like that of a lightning bug. :wink:

Check with delray, He' a OldMiniBikes member here. he has done a baja bike like yours with rear spring, and did something different with the head lite as far as using LED type lite bulb.

here you go bigfishisback.
i am using 36 leds fix to a 1156 bulb socket and it is bright. just in the last couple days i have seen a guy now selling a 45leds bulb socket ,but only comes in colors. i may have to email him and see if he plans on making white leds bulb socket. if not the 36 still will work good. leds will take hours and hours to drain down a battery.

I have a motorized bicycle that has a LED headlight, made for bicycles, that is adaquate [for me] at night. Just a few bucks at K-Mart. I've used it a number of times and have not had to replace the small batteries.

you guys got to remember the brightness of the led only comes from the tip, so the more you have pointing into the reflecter/mirrow of the headlight unit the better it will be.

I cant find a pic but someone took like a bicycle generator and attached it to the front of his motor. He cut a small notch out of his blower housing and used the flywheel to spin the generator to power his head light. I'll find the pic if your interested.

Great news! I have some spare 3157 sockets left over from another project, time to get a light back on the bike

If I was going to do something like that Id rather have it running off the flywheel. Because it would always be spinning as long as the engine is running.

yes mybiz , that's what you really need is a generator spinning all the time. the only problem i see running it off the flywheel for a long time or at high speeds is the factory bronze bushing will burn up. on my generator i modified it so it has a highspeed bearing at the end of it to take the load off the factory bronze bushing.
now with leds a battery will do the the job and a guy doesn't really need a generator,but i still like the ideal of having generator setup over a battery. just get on it and ride. never have to recharge a battery couple times in the summer.
