Jeep2003's Clinton Board Track Bike

#1
Im building a board track / wall of death style bike with a cast iron Clinton engine and spoked arctic cat wheels. I might not have a progect for the build off this year since im starting on this now but we'll see  . I got the wheels all fixed up and tires on them. They were rusted right through in spots so that was a bit of a progect in itself. And as you can see I made the rear suspension from scratch. I believe its called Sliding Pillar I think it should work good. Im making it without a cooling shroud at first I thought I might make the bike pedal and start it like that but i decided to just make it rope start and keep it simple. Also considered making a 2 speed setup on it but thats pretty complex also and id likely make all the parts myself so it probrobly wouldnt work that great.

I knocked all the fins off the flywheel and rather than grind down the fins I found a pot lid that fits over it to keep from sanding down my leg. Iv had this engine forever. Maybe even before I was born. Never ran it till a few years ago because we didnt have a carb for it. but it runs and im going to probrobly use a tilly on it. Going to make a leaf spring front end so that should be intresting. Im going with a belt drive clutch to the jackshaft and then chain to the back. Iv got the parts so might as well use them. I want to make a tool box infront of the back fender i can stash the pull rope in there. Think im going to tilt the engine . let me know if the pics arnt working. I dont have any close ups of the rear suspention ill get some later. Pic of the red bike is just to show the design im thinking. Im not sure what color yet maybe dark red or a green or black and gold

Hey Jeep...cool idea.

Don't mean to divert your thread, but you mention a 'wall of death' bike, and I'm gettin' nostalgic

.... the wall of death was one of my first exposures to the world of two wheels

...Dad took us to the Gaston County "Spindle Center" Fair in fall of 1967 or 68, where among other things, we saw Jack Cochmans (sp) Hell Drivers, and then we saw the big circular wooden building with all that racket coming out of it....

When my Dad took me up those steps and I looked down the wall, and they fired that thing up, and that guy rode on to the ramp...and rumbled up that wall....before I knew it he was up and goin' round the wall so close to the guide wire, that you could feel it .....

Whew....I can still see and hear it now.

That and a ride that year on the back of a late '60's H-D sprint, and I was hooked !

Have been ever since.

Jeep, thanks, and keep us posted.

Cool  We were at a fair that had one but didnt get to see it. I did however see a ball of death at a circus. Thats just insane  I rode a homemade bowl down in the swamp with my scooter thats as close as i ever got to riding one and it was awesome  If I had a backhoe id dig a big hole and make one on my own land.

yep iv got to still get some pics but the frame is pretty much done. and the gas tank I modified a briggs push mower tank and ill use that inside the big shell that resembles a motorcycle tank. I figured it would be much easier than trying to seal up such a large tank and i really dont need that much gas anyway. and if it leaks it wont ruin my paint. plus the inside of homemade tanks seems to rust alot and clog things up. The frame where it goes over th top of the engine i had to make a wiggle in it to go around the spark plug so that was the hardest part about it. but its looking good. Also i have some old leaf springs that should work for the front end. Iv been working on changine the master cylender in my Jeep so iv been a little side tracked

here is it as of now. I wasnt able to weld all the way around the tank filler because the old top is cast aluminum. I tried soldering it but that didnt seem to be sticking like it should so i just went over that seam with jb weld. i think itll be good.

Thanks yeah I tried bending a pipe and even a solid bar with heat. Just couldnt get it to bend nice so i cut up an old wheelchair handlebar and pieced it all together.
