minibike friendly shows in the south

#1
So for the past few years me, my family and some friends have been going to rat rods shows and part of the nostalgia of it all is minibikes.
We've built full frame bikes and have discovered actual minibikes. Boy what a pleasant disease!

At these shows they have ol ' skool flag drop grass drag racing for 300'.

We line the bikes up and take off! A real blast!

Swamp Stomp Rat Rod (and some hot rods) Show in Larose, La at the Larose civic center. March 7th 2015. (Address will be posted in next post)
This year will be fully dedicated to my youngest brother, Luke Gibbs, who recently passed away. We pretty much introduced the competitive minibike Racing to this show. We have been there since the first show with about 400 people. Over 2,100 were there last year. Rat rods, monster tricks, alchohol drinking tank, flame throwing competition, burnout competition, donuts after they race, magazine coverage, playground for the kids, trophies made from blown motor parts, live band, CAJUN FOOD!, raffling a rat rod AND the last bike me and my brother Luke started. Proceeds will go to Make-a-wish Foundation and me and my wife's life long missionary work in Madagascar. Selling 500 tickets, you have a chance of winning either the cat or the bike. Seriously, the best show we've ever been to.

Atomic Blast rat rod show in Gulfport, Ms at the Gulfport Dragway March 13-15. Again, an incredible show! We've been there since show 1, magazine coverage, same thing as Swamp stomp except all on the drag strip! Show Info - Atomic Blast Show

Brittany Project show in Franklin, la. March 21st. Again, all mention above but we are back on grass. There are a ton of vendors with arts and crafts, some of the best quail eggs I've ever had, homemade jewelry, pastries, lots of activities going on. Lots of good cajun cooking!

The coordinators have asked me every year to be sure and bring the minibikes. They said it's something new for everyone to watch and is catching on quick and everyone can do it!

Seriously guys, these shows are some of the most fun you'll have all year. These rat rodders bring extra tires just so they can burn em off and do it again. They even had a tire machine one year!

I'll post more info as I see it posted on Facebook.

You gotta make it to these shows! All in march!

Seriously, a minibike at a classic car show trumps everything else there. This past summer I rode at several formal Hot August Nights events at casinos around Reno (couldn't get in them all because tight security) but I got past several and boy was that a good time! Everybody from 8 to 80's eyes like saucers, jaws dropped on the pavement. Their sixty thousand dollar resto vs my $600 Lil Indian? I win. (And therein lies a little lesson in value!)

Bring a minibike to a car show and you will:

1. Be the rockstar of the show
2. Have women throw their bodies at you
3. Have to keep back from people or they will drool on you
4. Get past all but the tightest security (actually there were cops at the gate so I didn't screw with it)
5. Get offers to buy your minibike
6. Drive around with a shite eating grin like you own the place
7. Get free beer from bystanders (beware however, see #3)
8. Hear, "that's the coolest thing I ever saw" or "I ain't seen one of them since 1965...." all day (for best effect, say it in yer best redneck gomer tone)
9. Get invited to private parties

All this happened. I actually shot it on my GoPro but was experimenting with a handlebar mount which didn't work- way too much vibration. But next year.....:scooter::wink:

Granted, we only have 850 entrants per year and an attendance of less than 10,000 per day, but we don't allow mini bikes or motorcycles in the show. The reason for this, is that we'd get filled up with Harleys from all over the SW who'd be riding them through the venue, making dust, and running over patrons. Some of those cars cost in excess of 250K to build, and they are NOT going to put up with two wheelers making dust.

And yes, I have tried to change this to suit my hobby. :) Maybe next year, I'll buy a vendor booth and set up a vintage mini bike display.
