New piston rod

Hey guys i went to install the rod that cam with my hop up kit. Well it will not rotate freely. the bottom bolt ends up hitting this gear.. What is this gear for.. I would assume balance?

That is the balance shaft. You can either grind it for clearance, or remove it and put up with a little more vibration.

Billet rod hits in a big block? The gear is timed up right?

My ARC rod hit in my Honda 390. Not a lot but enough to stop it turning by hand. I clearanced the balance shaft and kept it, but many people just take it out.

Thinking of that, also check the clearance to the case. There was one spot in my 390 that the rod bolt head was very close to a rib in the block.
