Powell Bro Serial Numbers List

I found this old Powell at a yard sale. Did not know what it was at first. Had my brother take a look at it and he said my buddy up the street owned one as a kid. For some reason, I knew it look familiar. My brother and I had a old Taco, back in the late 60's. This bike has a frame number 2112-C. This bike has some, what looks like "One Off" things about it. Front fork extentions and a frame strengthener. It's missing a front wheel, pully/gear contershaft, if anyone knows where I can get parts let me know. DSCN6506.JPG

Finally getting a chance to get this going again after many years. The frame #2546-D , W/5hp Brigs. I want to install Predator 212 for more HP and a little longer rear spring to get more ground clearance. Keeping in mind that when my grandson is ready for it ,i can return it to Stock as much as possible! In 1972 owned a blue one with tire rubber shifter hold and Tecumseh motor. was a pit bike @ Ascot Raceway in Gardena, and every race track visited. Loved it so in the 80's found this one and snapped it up.

Thanks

My parents started a Saw and Lawn mower repair business in 1956 in the town of Maywood Calif that was one of the small suburbs on the east side of Los Angeles. I grew up in this shop and help of my dad built one of the first mini bikes I ever say out of lawn mower parts. We had a Briggs and Stratton engine franchise and carried all the parts for Briggs engines which at the time was several new engines and short blocks. I still have a nice littel 1 hp cast iron model 5s that runs great spite the fact the last one was built in 1955-56. The Powell mini bike was brought in the shop sometime around 1970 for the most friquant cause for running problems with all gas engines letting them sit to long with gas in the tank and carb. The Powell had the 5 hp Briggs with the carb having the little rubber diafram fuel pump made into the side to the carb. This was Briggs way of solving engine fires caused from fuel in the main gas tank catching fire. You could't leave these rubber diafram carbs sit very long with fuel in them without these engines not running becuse of bad diaframs. After repairing this Powell was never picked up so I've had it all these years. I got it out and started going through it a couple of weeks ago fixing it up for the family to have fun with. I know the Powell was built just a few miles from our shop in Southgate CA. I think this is the serial number for the bike and I know the BS 5 hp engine was the original engine, so when was this bike built.

Wow, this is a seriously cool story. Welcome to the forum, and feel free to start your own "build" or "Project" post with photos. If you need help with that, shoot me a PM. This is the kind of stuff I like to see here!

Ok had the engine running sounds good. All most done with the restoration already had the head off and seated the valves new gaskets all around. Carb cleaned and new diaphragm. Had to resurface the bottom of the carb to tank to fix leaky gasket easy fix. Recovering the seat
will post some pictures. If anyone needs small engine question answered I was working on them starting 1956 as a little 12 year old boy in my dads shop.

If you have or know of someone who has a Powell Mini Bike no matter what condition or shape please post the serial in this thread.
The serial number will be stamped into the frame on the upper frame rail just in front of where the front fork connects to the frame..Thanks

Steve Durham and a few others who own Powell are trying to put together as much info on the Powells as possible and need this info for a future conversation with Allen Powell son of one of the late Powell Brothers.
I have a D-2755 Andy
